The Reds Invade NYC's Come Out and Play
On Sunday, June 14, Ravenchase New York hosted its newest adventure, "The Reds Are Coming," as part of Come Out and Play, an annual street games festival held in New York City. In this adventure, Soviet Communist agents from 1955 had infiltrated present-day New York, setting up a network of agents poised to destroy the American way of life.
Nearly a hundred participants played in the game, set among the bustle of Times Square. The players ferreted out hidden Communist agents and worked with British and American forces to counter the Red threat. In the end, the forces of democracy prevailed, and the 1950s Reds were thrown back to their time.
Ravenchase Adventures has been an annual fixture at the Come Out and Play festival, and every year we've attempted to top the year before, trying new gadgets, more actors, and more enigmatic puzzles for players. This event was no exception, utilizing multi-layered clues, new and complex codes, and more locations than ever before.
However, one clue stood out above all others. In one of the most dramatic moments of the chase, teams were transfixed as an emergency message was broadcast on a massive television screen in the middle of Times Square. A British agent appeared and passed on his desperate communique before being intercepted by Communist forces. Although he was captured, his final message passed on valuable intelligence that would help the teams solve the final riddle and win the game. Here is the message that was displayed in Times Square:
All in all, it was an event far and above any that Ravenchase New York had done before. We look forward to creating new and exciting future events in New York - we'll see you at the game!
